In addition to his duties as General Counsel of BTC, he leads the global legal teams supporting BlackRock’s Institutional Client Business and BlackRock Solutions®. From 1990 through 1997, Lewis served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of California, where he prosecuted political corruption, fraud and other white collar crimes.

Lewis has been an instructor at the Stanford Director’s College on internal investigations and corporate governance, and an instructor in trial advocacy at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. He received awards as a federal prosecutor from the FBI, Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Lewis received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University, and his law degree from the University of California Berkeley, where he was an Executive Editor of the California Law Review.

Prior to joining PepsiCo, West served as the Associate Attorney General of the United States, the U.S. Department of Justice’s third-ranking official.

West has more than 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors. As Associate Attorney General, he led the Justice Department’s efforts to protect Americans’ civil rights; assist homeowners who suffered losses during the 2008 financial crisis; strengthen the federal relationship with sovereign Native American nations; establish strong partnerships between the nation’s state attorneys general and the federal government; and secure access to criminal and civil legal aid regardless of income.

Prior to his appointment as Associate Attorney General, West served as the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division, the Justice Department’s largest litigating component, where he supervised the work of approximately 1,000 lawyers. In this role, West bolstered the division’s enforcement efforts to recover taxpayer money lost to fraud and abuse. He also emphasized the division’s responsibility to bring civil and criminal actions to enforce the nation’s consumer protection laws.

Earlier in his career, West was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of California, where he prosecuted a variety of federal crimes. He also served as Special Assistant Attorney General at the California Department of Justice and was a litigation partner at Morrison & Foerster LLP in San Francisco.

West graduated with honors from Harvard College, where he served as publisher of the Harvard Political Review, and received his law degree from Stanford Law School, where he was President of the Stanford Law Review.

West is based in Purchase, N.Y.

member-photos-zinnAs Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary, and Chief Privacy Officer of TiVo Inc., a NASDAQ-traded software, media, and data analytics company, I oversee worldwide legal affairs and government relations, including securities law, communications, antitrust, and other regulatory matters, litigation, corporate governance, ethics and compliance, intellectual property, privacy, financial transactions and general corporate matters, and provide leadership and direction to the company’s executive management team, global legal staff and outside counsel. I manage an annual budget of $20-30M and a team of 8 attorney/non-attorney staff.

I built and have supervised the legal function for TiVo since 2000 after the Company’s IPO, including multiple financings, acquisitions, regulatory battles, and numerous service provider deals, as well as a change in CEO in 2005. I successfully managed multiple high-stakes patent litigations involving the DISH network, AT&T, Verizon, Microsoft, Motorola/Google, and Cisco resulting in over $1.6 billion in judgments and license fee payments to TiVo. In particular, the DISH litigation spanned 7 years and included 3 trips to the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. Serving as Corporate Secretary, I established a trusted relationship with the board of directors on corporate governance issues, litigation, and changes in applicable laws and regulations. As Chief Privacy Officer, I successfully guided the Company through multiple privacy policy changes and an FTC inquiry resulting in a determination by the FTC that the Company adheres to its privacy policy. I have testified on behalf of TiVo in several hearings before Congressional Committees on communications and copyright issues. By providing sound legal and business advice, I have enabled TiVo to launch innovative and disruptive products and features while avoiding litigation.
